Ceramic Art

This is a unique art form of painting. Instead of a canvas or paper we use pieces of glazed porcelain or china, on which you can paint and create your own patterns ( spots , dots, streaks, stripes…whatever ) or floral, contemporary, stylised images as simple or complex as you wish. Step by step help is always given , how to mix the paints, how to place and develop a design. Once the basics of paint mixing and brushstrokes are mastered you can choose to do your own thing or follow a class project. The work is fired in a kiln and becomes a permanent piece of your own creativity. Line drawings and tracings can be used if hand drawing isn’t your strong point. Being in a class atmosphere is social and ideas can be shared and discussed over a coffee. Paint a vase , a dish for the table, tiles to create coasters or a splash – back or simply something as a gift.

We meet in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, always sharing ideas and giving encouragement. It’s fun and it is wonderful to see what everyone creates.

No previous experience needed.

Individuals will learn through help and guidance as a class and with individual chats and backup.

Items to bring to class include a notebook, pen and a tea towel as a table cover.

The specialist materials such as paints, brushes and china can be purchased through the tutor. A basic starter kit of a couple of brushes, 5 or 6 paints, painting medium and pencil will cost around £15 but will last a long long time. Many outlets such as supermarkets and home ware stores stock suitable white Ceramic pieces.
