Tai Chi – Advanced

T’ai Chi Ch’uan

“Lee Style” T’ai Chi is almost 3000 years old and is the most popular T’ai Chi in the world. This style is known as ‘the family style’ due to its gentle, flowing movements. It is suitable for all ages and levels of mobility.

Chinese breathing exercises are incorporated into every session. Regular practice has been shown to improve and strengthen the lungs and the immune system.

Some exercises have a sedating effect on the system, while others act as a stimulant and tonic. Learning to breathe correctly is essential for the efficient functioning of the physical body and mental processes. By controlled and regular Dao Yin exercises, good breathing habits will increase energy levels and start to store the natural, vital force of Chi; thus improving vitality and health.

Gentle stretching movements are built into every session. Regular practice will help and improve both physical and mental well-being. The exercises work on a physical level and especially the internal organs, massaging and strengthening. The basic Kai Men sequences are gentle and low impact; so the variety of postures can be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of age or degree of fitness. Suppleness of muscles, joints, better circulation and improved efficiency of the internal organs, along with feelings of complete relaxation are the rewards for practicing this ancient, Chinese art.

Previous experience of the ‘Lee-Style’ form of Tai Chi is essential.

The tutor is a fully qualified T’ai Chi, Dao Yin & Kai Men instructor via the East West Taoist Association.

Individuals will learn by following the simple instructions and actions of the tutor who will break down the series of movements into manageable ‘sets’ which in time, make up longer sequences of movement.Suitable, soothing, background music is a feature of the  classes.

Please wear loose, comfortable clothes that you can stretch in and footwear suitable for indoor surfaces. You may like to bring a bottle of water as refreshment.

This course runs all year round in 10 week blocks.
